TROUBLE IN SAMOA.
Mau Attempt To Prevent Arrest. ADMINISTRATION DEFIED. APIA, May 27. Two Mau chiefs who had been | charged with assault refused to obey summonses to attend the Court, and intimated that they did not recognise the Administration. The military policc arrested the chiefs yesterday. The occasion was marked by en unsuccessful attempt l>y Mau supporters to prevent the arrest. Several of the Mau were injured by police batons. It is reported from Geneva that it has been arranged that the Mandates Commission will examine the Ryrie, Nauru and New Guinea reports on -Jane 13, and General Sir G. Ri chard son'& examination on Samoa will take place on June 19. It is understood the latter'* examination will be oral and not based on any written report. OFFICIAL ACCOUNT. NATIVES NOT SERIOUSLY HURT (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Minister of External Affairs lias been advised by the Administrator of Western Samoa, Mr. S. S. Allen, that tho arrest yesterday morning by civil and military police of a Mau chief named Leotu, wanted on a charge of having threatened to kill, was resisted, and resulted in a small conflict between the police and the Mau natives. The arrest was effected without injury to the police and a number of minor casualties occurred among the Satnoans, but it is believed that nono is serious. Subsequently to tho incident. Tamascsc, tho Mau loader, and other Mau chiefs saw the Administrator u.nd accompanicd him on an inspection of the Injured natives.
