OBITUARY.
MR. LANCELOT D. NICOL. SEVENTY YEARS' COLONIST. After a residence of seventy years in New Zealand. Mr. Lancelot Douglas Nicol died on. Saturday at his home, Mount Eden Road, aged 83. He was born at Woodsend, Peebbles, Scotland, in 1845, and landed with his parents at Port Chalmers from the ship Three Bells in 18.).5. Like many other early arrivals i in tlie South. Mr. Xicol tried his luck I on the Gabriel's Gully and also the Shotover goldlieids. In 1870 he started farming on two extensive properties at Fortrose. Later lie carried on a business at Dunedin, and 20 years ago eame to Auckland, where he carried on as a wool buyer and exporter. During the war, Mr. Xicol was a buyer of wool and skins for the Government. He kept up his interest in business affairs in this city until a few weeks ago when his health began to fal. Mr. Xicol married a daughter of Mr. John Tweedie, of Mataura, in 1872. lie is survived by his wife and the following children:—Mr. J. B. Xicol. of Gore: Mrs. W. G. Somerville, of Te Kuiti; Mrs. Laurenti, of Melbourne; and Miss Xicol, of Mount Eden. The interment took place at Waikumete on Sundav.
