MAN STEALS FROM BAR. PROSECUTED BY HIS NEPHEW. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) t HRISTCHL'RCH, this day. Albert Lawrence, .">B, a labourer, was fined £'■>. in default fourteen days' imprisonment, for stealing seven bottles of ale and one of whisky, the property of Patrick Stephen Lawrence, proprietor of the Club Hotel. The police said Lawrence was an uncle of the licensee, and had been iii the liabit of working in the hotel. Yesterday lie was seen to get through a window, enter the bar, and steal the liquor when the licensee was absent. The police said that when a sergeant arrived at accused's home he found seven empty beer bottles, accused having evidently emptied them into a demijohn. A bottle of whisky with a. "nip" taken out was found in the bathroom.
Counsel said act-used \va< the son of the man who originally built the hotel. and for over forty years lie had worked at tin* hotel, aiuh had had the general run of the premises. The hotel was still owned by accused's two brothers. On Sunday accused was under the influence of liquor, and he lost that' sense of discretion which he usually had.
