PRESENTATION -BY DAIRYMEN GOLD WATCH Full MR. VALENTINK. Mr. G. M. Valentine, chief dairying instructor in the North Auckland district, was the recipient to-day of a gold watch, presented by Mr. W. Grouuds, chairman of the New Zealand Dairy Produce Board, on behalf of the North. Auckland Dairy Conference. Congratulating Mr. Valentine on having been appointed manager of the experimental dairy farm at the Massey Agricultural College, Palmerston North, Mr. Grounds said that, under his faithful and accomplished guidance, the dairy industry in the North had grown from small beginnings to large proportions. Mr. Valentine's promotion was richly deserved. In his new sphere his knowledge and influence would have even wider scope and be of more benefit to the dairy - [ ing community than it had been in the j past. The continued effort to improve the quality in North Auckland had been ! due A ery largely to his efforts and his enthusiasm.
Responding, Mr. Valentine said it was sixteen years since he first came to work in the North Auckland district, and since then lie had been accorded the utmost hospitality in going on his rounds through the district. He thanked everyone for the many kindnesses shown him. His first impulse had been to shirk this new position when it was offered him, because it was a new class of work, and would be a responsible position, but on second thoughts he accepted. (Applause.) For one thing, it would mean more family life.
Mr. Valentine appealed to dairy factory companies throughout New Zealand to support the Agricultural College factory. Some of the students would be looking for jobs in the summer months, and he hoped they would not be turned down. In returning thanks for the watch, Mr. Valentine said he would always welcome North Auckland dairymen who happened to be passing through Palmerston North.
