THE WINTER SHOW.
OPENING BY PRIME MINISTER dairy section strong. BUTTER .\\ D CHEESE AWARDS. <By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") HAMILTON, this day. Indications are all in favour of the "VVaikato Winter Show, which will be officially opened by the Prime Minister, the Rt, Hon. J. G. Coates, to-morrow afternoon, being a huge success. The district lias had its fair share of rain during the last few days, and this morning the weather is still showery, but appearances point to the sun regaining control and a tine opening day.
As usual the dairy section will be particularly good. The long dry summer certainly affected the dairy farmer to some extent, but the drought was over in time for a good recovery in the long •utumn which has given the producer heart to fully exhibit the results of his labour. The vegetables and root classes are exceptionally fine. This is the twenty-second annual exhibition. and it will be open for seven days and night*. During that period Hamilton will be the Mecca for farmers from every part of New Zealand, the Waiknto event having grown steadily through the years until it stands now as a representative exhibition, not as a city or a province, but of the whole Dominion. » The success of the Waikato Show is due largely to good management and a high standard of regular exhibits. Each year new features have been introduced, indicating progress in various departments of national activity. The show lms a wonderful recreational value as it provides a social meeting place for people iroffl city and country, and it niny in broad terms be called a popular university 011 account of its great educntionnl value. The industrial strength of agriculture is well displayed, and in addition industry and commerce outside of the land has an important place. It has taken the Waikato Winter Sliow nearly a quarter of a century to reach its present proportions and importance, and it is claimed that the show represents tlie greatest dairy produce exhibit ion of Its kind i" the world.
