"COLOSSAL CHEEK."
A VIGOROUS PROTEST.
W AITEM AT A POWER BOARD
"WHAT WE HAVE WE HOLD."
"It is a piece of colossal cheek," said Mr. J. VV. llayden, chairman of the \Y aiteinata Electric Power Board, today, when referring t:> a suggestion made before the Commission
part of the board's area should be taken into that of the Auckland Electric Power Board. Mr. Hayden proposed that the secretary be authorised to write to the chairman of the commission expressing the strong opposition of the board to the proposal, and also that the chairman offer to give evidence before the commission. In shaking of the proposal the chairman said it was a monstrous suggestion.
Mr. Trevethick: Surely we are not going to take notice of all the silly suggestions being made before a commission?
Mr. Hayden: I don't want to interfere in the City Council's affairs. We have a good business, aud don't want any outside interference. Our motto is "What we have we hold."
Mr. lvennings said that evidence had been adduced that affected the board's position before the commission. lie supported the proposal, but said that care should be taken to see that the board was not called upon to pay part of the costs of the commission. Would any local body that took part have to share the costs?
Mr. Mucky said he understood the commission was set up to consider the question of transport. He thought power board matters were outside tlie scope of the commission.
Mr. Greenslade was of the opinion the board should ignore the whole question. The motion was carried.
