GALE AT THE POLE.
Italia Unable To Make A Landing. BACK AT SPITZBERGEN. (Australian and N. 55. Association.) (Received 11 a.m.) BERLIN, May 25. The "Berliner Tageblatt" reports that the Italia, the airship in which General Nobili flew over the North Pole, has arrived back at Spitsbergen.
Reports from King's Bay, Spitzbergen, say an adverse north-west gale was so strong that General Nobili,was unable, to carry out his full plans at the Pole. It was impossible to land because the anchor would not have held. They could not drop the Pope's wooden commemorative cross or the Italian flag.
In a wireless message received at 11 a.m. to-day the explorers sajd they were flying over unexplored parts of North Greenland. On their arrival at King's Bay at midnight they found thfe city bellagged in their honour.
