SCHOOLBOYS' CONCESSIONS.
NOT FOR WORKING HOURS.
TRAMWAYS' PROSECUTION.
In order to make it widely known that schoolboys' concession tickets are available only when the holders are travelling to and from school, the Auckland City Tramways brought an action against a lad iu the Children's Court today.
E. Hardinan, ticket inspector, said that on April 23, at 7.30 a.m., he examined tickets on a Herne Bay-City tram. Defendant presented a schoolboy's concession card, on which he was travelling to town for ?d. The ordinary concession fare was 2Jd. Witness asked the boy if he was going to work, and he replied that he was. He said he attended night school, and thought he was entitled to use a school ticket at all times.
Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M.: That puts it in a nutshell. You though that as vou were going to school at night, you could use the card during the day. You had no right to use it when going to work. We are not ordering you to nay costs, but in future cases we shall not only order payment of costs, but will have to take other action. And if too many come before me. we shall have to take these tickets away from all of you. The lad stated that he earned 17/6 a week. » i
