BANKRUPTCY COURT.
DISCHARGES GRANTED.
TAURANGA FARMER'S AFFAIRS
TWELVE MONTHS' SUSPENSION.
A sitting in bankruptcy took place in the Supreme Court to-day before Mr. Justice MacGregor.
Discharges were granted in the following cases: Alfred Herbert Dillon, farmer, Auckland; Richard Milton Pennefather, caretaker, Auckland; Frank Reginald Shirtcliff, farmer, Okaihau; George Alfred John Smith, farmer, Netherton; Frederick Charles Warner, storeman, Tauranga: Henry Bonne Smith, fruiterer, Dargaville; and Leonard Owen, farmer, Brown's Bay. A motion for the winding up of the Anglo French Manufacturing Company, Ltd. (Mr. Goldstine), was granted. In the case of Max Jacob Schneideman it was stated by Mr. Goldstine that his client consented to an order in bankruptcy as he desired a full investigation. The order was made.
The following were adjudicated bankrupt: B. L. Brown, and Messrs. Brown and Hawkins, contractors, of Rawene.
The application of Edward James Crawford (Mr. Osburne Lilly) for discharge from bankruptcy, was opposed by Mr. Thomas, representing the principal creditors.
Petitioning counsel said Crawford was formerly a farmer at Katikati, Tauranga, and that he had a wife and four children. He was at present working on ships, but only received wages for days 011 which the weather made work possible. He had a chance to go sharemilking; but he could not do so until he was discharged from bankruptcy. Mr. Thomas said petitioner's dealings with his creditors had not been entirely satisfactory. He had also purchased a motor car at a time when his financial position did not justify it.
The offieal assignee said he did not think Crawford had made any deliberate attempt to beat his creditors, but he had undoubtedly shown preference to his father in regard to a bill of sale.
Giving his decision, the judge said he was satisfied that no case had been made out for Crawford's immediate discharge. He made an order for discharge, but subsequent to a suspension for twelve months.
