NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL.
REINSTATEMENT DISCUSSION.
The New Zealand Kugby League council met last evening, Mr. C. A. onedden presiding.
Considerable discussion took place concerning the proceedure in making application fcr reinstatement.
Mr. E. Stallworthy said that the reinstatement farm used by the Auckland League should be adopted, whieh meant that the applicant would have to produce a declaration, signed by a justice of the peace, that he would not receive any monetary benefit for coming back to the League code. It, was contended by Mr. R. Stirling that the form at present in use had no hold on players. "In my opinion the declaration is a most essential .document, as it clears the League from any talk of professionalism," said Mr. J. Carlaw.
It was finally decided to forward a copy of the Auckland League's form to other leagues with a request that such forms be used for future applications. In support of a letter irom the Canterbury Rugby League, Mr. Carlaw appealed for a Test match against the English team to be played at Christchurch. Such a game was likely to benefit considerably the code in Canterbury.
It was stated from the chair that the official itinerary had not yet been arranged. Mr. Stirling said that the hone of contention was the question of ground charges at Monica Park. If the present charges, which he considered excessive, were reduced, he would support a Test game being played there. =■ Canterbury's claim was supported by other delegates, and it was finally decided to consideration of the request until the Otago League had completed the match arrangements for the South Island.
Some discussion also took place concerning the calling of time, Mr. W. Murray, an ex referee, saying that he did not agree with the procedure in Auckland, and that local referees were not giving the correct interpretation of the rules, which were very decided. It was resolved to inform the various leagues of the corect ruling. The application of T. Tane, South Auckland, for reinstatement . was granted.
