MAD BULLOCK LOOSE.
CHASED THROUGH STREETS. DROWNED IX HARBOUR. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) CHRIS TCHURCH, Thursday. A mad bullock broke loose in Lyttelton early this morning and careered through the streets, chased by stockmen on horseback. Sighting a dairyman's horse and cart in Brittan Terrace, the bullock charged, and the milk vendor sought refuge up a flight of steps. The horse jumped aside and the bullock thus did not strike the cart squarely. It then rushed down Voelas Road, where it met a shipwright, who was carrying timber and wheeling a bicycle. The bullock impaled the cycle on its horns and wrecked it. Charging down to the dock the animal jumped off a boat slip and swam about between the yachts and other small craft moored in the harbour. A crowd of spectators gathered, but it was deemed advisable not to make anv attempt at rescue. After 15 minutes the bullock's head disappeared under the surface and it was pulled out of the water dead.
