Already there has been some discussion about raising i veterans' 'ieam, to be composed of ex-shield players, to play a curtain-raiser to the first shie.'d match.
The Auckland Hockey Association are seriously considering the purchase of a ground, and last Monday made their first inspection. Messrs. L. C. Kent (president), H. B. Spueight (vice-presi-dent ), A. Playle (chairman), E. J. Hewitt (hon. secretary) and the members of the executive were shown over a couple of properties.
In challenging for the Shield, Waikato omitted forwarding the necessary iees, but they were immediately paid by the Waikato delegate at the meeting of the New Zealand executive.
The Auckland Hockey Association consists of fourteen clubs and nine subassociations. Mr. P. N. Quartermain, an ex-secretary of the New Zealand Hockey Association, has been appointed sole delegate for Auckland. The Nelson representatives will probably play Canterbury on May 26.
The status of Manawatu was questioned ft the last meeting of the New Zealand executive.
Mr. E. A. Burton, of Auckland, now in England, has received credentials from the New Zealand Hockey Association to enable him to discuss matters with the English Association.
Mr. W. Renshaw, an ex-Thames representative player who has been keenly interested in the local games, returned to the Thames last Monday. Mr. W. Newsham was appointed publicity official at the last meeting of the Auckland executive.
