COMMERCIAL ART.
BIG MONEY IN AMERICA
America is the mecca of the -commercial artist, according to Mr. Walter Jardini, a Sydney artist who arrived by the Aorangi yesterday. Mr. Jardini has been in New York for the past six years. He intends to settle in Sydney. He stated that high prices are paid for the work, with the result that many wellknown men are turning to this branch of profession. The prices paid for magazine and book illustration are only half those paid for commercial work, but the producers state the fact that an artist gets his name before the public in this manner is compensation. That is true, but, after all, the artists are after the big money. Mr. Jardini said several Australian artists are doing very well in the United States. He mentioned particularly Mr. John Richard Flannigan, whose work is in great demand.
