OYSTER SEASON.
PROBABLY END OF JUNE.
"It »>will probably be the end of June before the Auckland oyster seafeon is opened this year," said the inspector of fisheries (Mr. F. P. Flinn) this morning, who mentioned that the chief inspector of fisheries (Mr. A. E. Hefford) would visit Auckland shortly to discuss the matter.
Mr. Flinn said that the oyster beds in the gulf and along the coast were looking particularly well, and a big crop of good oysters was expected Last season many of the gulf oysters were dull in colour, although palatable. During the past week the beds at Waiheke, Rangitoto and Great Barrier have been inspected, and it was. found that the dark tinge had disappeared.
A later opening this year will probably mean «n extension of picking up to about October. The Auckland crop last year, was approximately 7000 sacks.
