MANGERE METHODIST HALL.
OPENED YESTERDAY,
The ceremony of opening the new hall for the Methodist Church at Mangere took place yesterday afternoon. The building was erected by voluntary labour in Walnisley Road, near the Black Bridge, and occupies a fine position, being situated in a large section on a rise. So large was the attendance at the opening that many were unable to obtain admission.
The president of the New Zealand Methodist Conference, Rev. W. J. Elliott, conducted the first service in the hall, and referred to the need for more Sunday schools. He also spoke in commendatory terms to the volunteer workers who were responsible for the erection of the building. The Rev. F. E. Leadley, minister in charge of the Onehunga circuit, conducted the service in the evening. It is proposed to paint the building next Saturday, and also finish the interior. An organ was donated, also a portion of the seating accommodation. Other donations have also been received, a prominent churchman in the district having offered to subsidise on a f for £ basis to the extent of £50.
