"THANK YOU, SO MUCH."
PRISONER'S THANKS FOR FINE. SEQUEL TO STREET ARGUMENT. It is not very often that a prisoner thanks a magistrate for imposing a fine upon him. However, such a thing occurred at the Police Court this morning, George Jackson (50) causing everyone in the packed courtroom, including Mr. Hunt himself, to laugh heartily. Jackson pleaded guilty to a charge of bem£ disorderly while drunk in Newton Road on Saturday evening. He was having an argument with his sister in the street, and he became unruly and would not go away, so he was arrested," said Sub-Inspector McCarthy.
"He's fined £1," said Mr. Hunt, as he turned over the sheet of his big book to look for the name of the next man to enter th% dock.
"What's that?" shouted Jackson. "You are fined £1." replied the magistrate.
"Oh. thank yon. so snid Jackson, as he swung round to walk out of the dock. "
