RATING ON UNIMPROVED VALUE.
An error occurred in our report of . • P- «T. O'Regan's address on the rat,n 8 question. The statement "if the "nimproved system were adopted it would mean an increase in the rate rom 2/8 in the £ to about 5/4," should read, "from 2.8 d to 5.4 d. The speaker went on to say, "it will thus 66 seen that the new rate would be well Under 6d in the £ on the bare land e > and it is safe to say that the jP"eat majority of ratepayers would pay nV 1 than they do now. The figure • d (on the capital value, i.e., land plus ® prove in en ts), i.s the equivalent of the Present rate, though, of course, the ssessrncnts are not made in this way, u on the annual value, on which they a Pproximate 4/0 in the £."
