MOTOR CAR AND CYCLE COLLIDE.

MAN AND WOMAN INJURED.

TWELVE MONTHS OLD CHILD

ESCAPES.

When she was wheeling a perambulator, in which was her twelve months old daughter, at the junction of Dominion Road ancl Balmoral Road yesterday morning, Mrs. Helen Knight, of Tenterden Avenue, Mount Eden, was knocked dovrn bv a motor car. Mrs. Knight was hurt, and although the perambulator was upset the baby was unscathed.

The accident was the result of a collision between Mr. Arthur Smitheron, chief stoker on H.M.s. Diomede, who was

riding the cycle, and a motor car driven by Mr. Victor L. Baker, salesman, of Winstoiie Road, Mount Roskill. The sudden impact caused Mr. Baker to lose momentary control of the ear. It swung round, mounted the footpath and knocked Mrs. Knight down.

Dr. M. 15. Ctiim heard the crash, and. hurrying to the scene found Mr. Smitheron and Mrs. Knight both lying on the road. The latter was bady bruised, but able to proceed to her home. Mr. Smitheron was not so fortunate and lie Mas admitted to the hospital suffering from internal injuries and abrasions to his face, legs and hands. To-day he was reported to be progressing favourably.

Eye-witnesses state that had it not been for the prompt action of Mr. linker in applying the brakes the accident might have resulted more seriously to Mrs. Knight and the habv. Two Other Hospital Cases. In addition to attending to various minor accidents amongst the crowds which lined the streets during Anzac Da}' parade St. .fnlm Ambulance had to attend to two hospital cases last evening. The first was that of a child three years of age, named Francis Jackson, whose mother resides in Nelson Street. The little chap was playing in a paddock off Nelson Street when he was kicked by a horse on the right side of his face. He was taken to the hospital, where on inquiring to-day he was said to be improving.

The second case was that of an elderly man, L'r. Franc's Walker, aped 79, who sustained concussion and other injuries to the head. Mr. Walker, who lives in Miller Roiwl, Point Chevalier, fell off a tramcar in Edendale Road, opposite Page's corner. His condition was also reported to be improved this morning.
