NEW LYNN CROSSING FATALITY.

"Had .the overhead bridge been extended to Matai Avenue, I am of the opinion that there would not have been an inquest to-day." These were the remarks of a member of the New Lynn Town Board at Tuesday's j .eeting, in making reference to the crossing fatality of Monday last. The Town Board has never fully approved of the bridge, and several months back wrote to the Railway Department asking for an extension of the structure to a point beyond the I railway siding on Matai Avenue, the present approach being considered most dangerous, especially bo in the absence of any warning device on the "ossing. The subsequent reply from the Department was that no funds were available. It was unanimously agreed not to let the matter drop, and to again strongly .place before the railway authorities the, necessity of extending * the bridge to a position where there would be less I danger to the public and greater safety provided - for school children.
