A raging torrent, 40ft deep, swept over a cotton farm at Rockhampton, Queensland, carrying away the occupants' house, besides an entire family of seven people, all being lost. As Captain Wilkins, the Australian aviator-explorer, was flying over the North Pole, the aeroplane met troublesome atmospheric conditions. It "bucked like a 'broncho" at one stage, and at another "was tossed about like a cork."
