"A FRUITFUL VINEYARD."

A rather reticent officer of the Salvation .Aiiny. Ensign V. Thompson, who lived in Auckland prior to going to India as a missionary six and a-lialf years ago, returned on the Ma ram a this* morning. He will leave for India in October.

"I may not speak of things political in India," said the ensign, "and there is not much that I can tell you of the Salvation Army's work, except that it is going ahead in a very satisfactory way. T am stationed in the southern native State of Troveneore, in which there are S'.i European officers and 900 Indian officers. The Salvation Army soldiers number about 50,000. It is a very fruitful vineyard. We have a large mother hospital and seven branch hospitals, all of which do splendid work in relieving the sufferings of the sick."
