WANGANUI, this day.
The steamer Gale remained at' anchor a few miles down the coast last night. The Wanganui Harbour tug Kahanui went oat to stand, by in case of emergency, and this morning it took the Gale in tow, and they are now proceeding to Wellington.
A strong wifid sprang up in the afternoon sad huge seas were breaking all aloof the coast, causing grave fears for thesafety of the helpless steamer.
The Gale dropped anchor about a mile gad' a-half off shore, about eight miles southward of Wanganui, and in the early evening itwaastatedthat the seas were going down and there was. little danger. Later, however, other reports came to hand, and shortly before 11 p.m. the Kahanui was sent out..
