QUEENSLAND FLOODS

Many Districts In The State

Stricken.

BRISBANE PARTLY SUBMERGED

(Received 11.80 a.m.)

BRISBANE, this day.

Owing to the floods in South Brisbane, the wharves are devoid of shipping. The Esperance Bay and the Orama were a day late in leaving the port as the result of flood waters, and the former was compelled to leave 17,000 boxes of butter on the wharf. Debris in large quantities is floating down the river menacing navigation.

Shopkeepers are busy removing goods from the cellars in anticipation of further floods. It is expected that the Brisbane River will reach the highest level to-night.

Reports from country centres indicate that the flood waters are receding. Great damage was caused, many farmers losing their entire crops. There was also extensive damage to roads.

The countryside for miles around is a huge lake. Peoplef have discarded their ordinary dress and are gaing about in bathing suits. Incessant rain at Richmond for four days has swollen »U the creeks and rivers at Richmond and Lismore, and they are 12ft ,above normal height. It is still raining. Many of the roads are blocked.

TERRIFIC STORM.
