NEWMARKET TRAFFIC.
At the last meeting of the Mount Efea 7 Borough Council the Mayor was reported ta» have stated that, since transport had lata under the jurisdiction of the City Comtefl, He progress and development of the borough fas almost remained stationary, more partkaiariy in tiie outer areas, while the city and tormarket had forged ahead at the expenaatf suburban bodies. An analysis of the reveals the fact that the increased valnatiia in . latter borough is in no way comieetai< with the transport question, but is soldy dm to property owners erecting more np-to*# buildings to replace those built more than Mf a century ago. Let the ratepayers foe I' moment consider the Mayor's scheme, wiU would be an admirable one from a city mt > of view, as it would transfer trade frai Broadway 'and land it into Queen Street ■ record time by creating a speedway peat public school, Manual Training School ui kindergarten and Grammar School route, Hilea ve a valuable area at the back of Broadway and in Carlton Gore Road to be developed by our great-great-grandchildren. Then let ratepayers consider the scheme recommended by tfa engineer and adopted by the majority of tkt council, men who have proved them selves tij; be successful business men with large interotf in the district. Let the biggest pessimist if the borough take a stroll round to the rear of that fine three-storeyed building recently erected and visualise the future of Otbont Street, which is on a parallel with Broadway, if widened and leading into the main artenl| road past Hardley's. It requires only ordiwy vision to forecast a development which woaM be the envy of surrounding districts and wfcki every ratepayer would be proud of. vf
