SEXTON BLAKE ON THE SCREEN.
A film concern, British Filmeraft Productions, Ltd., held a cheerful meeting recently, at which an interesting production programme was outlined. They are engaged in producing six short films for the Famous Lasky Film Service, one of the foremost film companies in America. These films are being made by arrangement with the Amalgamated Press, Ltd., and were based on the exploits of Sexton Blake, the famous fictional detective. Negotiations have practically been completed with one of the largest American film-distributing houses whereby the company would make for them their pictures for the quota under the British Films Act for the next two years. The board has received a cable from Sir John Martin-Harvey saying he would be back in England next month to begin work on M. Maeterlinck's celebrated play, "The Burgomaster of Stilemonde," which part he created on the stage. Mr. Mattaeson Lang is also commencing work with the company in May for two pictures, "The Lyons Mail" and Mr. E. Temple Thurston's story, -'The Blue Peter." The company has also bought the rights of the Baroness Orczy as to the filming of her novel, The" Scarlet Pimpernel." The company's activities are receiving the assistance and backing of the distributing companies.
