ONEHUNGA AFFAIRS.
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
A meeting of the Onehunga-Mannkft Chamber of Commerce was held last night, Mr. H. J. Da vies, J.P., presiding. Bank Interest.—lt -was agreed to join with the Auckland and Canterbury Chambers of Commerce in approaching _ the chairman of the associated banks with a request that as the adverse course of the trade of the Dominion had been checked, the banks should favourably consider tie question of the reduction of their overdraft rates of" interest immediately.
Sunday Trading.—The president informed the members that he had brought under the notice of Sergeant J. A. Crackshank. who was in charge of the Onehnnga police district, the fact of the Chinese market gardeners working on Sundays. The "celestials,"' to save time, carted some of their produce to Auckland from Mangere and Te Papapa on Sundays, and returned with a load of empty boxes. The meeting agreed to support the police in any action they may take to stop tha practice. Footpaths.—On the motion of Mr. E. V. Sutherland, it was decided to respectfully draw the attention of the boronghi couiK-il to the necessity of tarring the footpaths on both sides of the streets in th» borough.
Lectures.—The president and seeretaiy (Mr. A. H. Houldsworth) undertook t» get experts to deliver a series of lectin® in Onehunga with a view to deepening the interest of the members in the meeting* of the Chamber of Commerce.
