A man walked into the shop of Messrs. Partridge and Jenness, jewellers, Planners Street, yesterday afternoon, and, representing himself to be a well-known racehorse owner, asked to see a diamond ring valued at £750, which was being displayed in the window. Having "been served by Mr. F. Jenness, the man moved toward the door, apparently to see the ring in a better light. Then, without anv warning, he dashed from the shop. Mr. Jenness sought the aid of Detective Jarrold and they started to search for the man, whom they located displaying the ring in the bar of the Grand Hotef When he was accosted by the detective he fainted, or pretended to faint. This gave tlie detective an opportunity of searching him, and the ring was soon recovered. The alleged thief was arrested.
