NEW MAGISTRATE.
FOR NORTH AUCKLAND. MR. J. H. LUXFORD APPOINTED. MANY CONGRATULATIONS.
Mr. J. H. Luxford, of Auckland, who was recently elevated to the magisterial bench, took the oath of allegiance at the Magistrate's Court this morning. Mr. Luxford has been appointed to the North Auckland circuit—a large and growing district which includes the townships of Helensville, Maungaturoto, Dargaville, Whangarei, Kaitaia and Rawene.
The ceremony took place in the room of Mr. E. C. Cutten, the senior magistrate, who mentioned incidentally that yesterday he attained his "majority" on the bench. Twenty-one years have elapsed since Mr. Cutten presided over his first Court.
Mr. Luxford, an Auckland solicitor with a distinguished war record, has been the recipient of many congratulations. His appointment, following that of Mr. S. L. Paterson, is regarded as a distinct compliment to the city. Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., presided at the Onehunga Police Court this morning. Before the proceedings commenced Mr. W. J. Rogers, speaking on behalf of the solicitors present, congratulated Mr. Luxford on his appointment to tihe magistracy, and welcomed him to Onehunga, this being his first sitting in that capacity. Mr. J. Laking, J.P., spoke in similar terms on behalf of the local Justices of the Peace, as also did Sergeant J. A. Cruickshank for the police. Mr. Luxford thanked the speakers for their good wishes and said he appreciated them very much.
