A GOOD SPORTSMAN.
MR. H. R. MACKENZIE HONOURED. PRESENTATION FROM OTAHUHU TROTTING CLUB. There are few sportsmen in New Zealand who are more highly thought of than Mr. H. R. Mackenzie, president of the Otahuhu Trotting Club, and one of the proprietors of the Auckland Stud Company, at which Catmint and Peach Brandy are the sires. Mr. Mackenzie is also the chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board, and yesterday afternoon a large gathering of sportsmen met at the Otahuhu Trotting Club's office to wish bon voyage to Mr. Mackenzie, who is leaving next month for a trip to England. Mr. E. V. Sutherland presided and said that they had met together that afternoon to pay a tribute to the esteem in which Mr. Mackenzie was held, and also to wish him bon voyage. Mr. Mackenzie was chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board and would now have the opportunity of seeing what other harbour boards did in connection with their ports and would be able to bring back ideas which would make for the betterment of Auckland. He thought the experience Mr. Mackenzie would gain would be invaluable to him and also the people of this city. Mr. Sutherland then presented Mr. Mackenzie With a travelling case suitably inscribed. Mr. John Rowe, president of the Auckland Trotting Club, and Mr. G. Baildon, the Mayor, also paid a high tribute to Mr. Mackenzie and hoped that he would have a most pleasant trip and a safe return.
Mr. Mackenzie later unveiled a most characteristic photograph of the late Mr. C. F. Mark, secretary of the Auckland Trotting Club, which he presented to the club.
