Representatives of about 200 cotton spinning companies controlling about 21,000,000 spindles attended a meeting in Manchester on Tuesday when a scheme for a large scale amalgamation of mills spinning American-grown cotton was formally announced. The proposal is that a corporation, to be called the "Lancashire Textile Corporation, Limited," will be formed and that it will amalgamate companies by exchanging its own shares and stock for the present creditors' claims and shareholders' certificates.

Cholera has broken out in Calcutta and 122 deaths have occurred in one day. The health authorities are inoculating thousands of Indians to prevent the disease spreading.

A further increase last week of over 5000 is reported by the Ministry of Labour in the number of persons unemployed in Britain. The total of men, boys and girls oat of employment is now 1,066,100.
