SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
Yesterday afternoon a "Bring and buy" was arranged by the Takapuna Croquet Club to benefit equally the Takapuna Relief Fund and the club. The stall was managed by Mrs. J. Hayden and Mrs. Allen, who were kept busy. Afternoon tea was on sale, and was dispensed by Mesdames White, Rudell, Nagle and Davie*. The social hall in the bowler*' pavilion was used for the occasion, the tables being decorated with white Michaelmas daisies and red salvia.
An enjoyable kitchen evening was held at the residence of Miss K. Torrancc, Heme Bay, last evening, in honour of Miss Marion Norris who is shortly to be married. Dancing, competitions and musical items added to the enjoyment, and Miss Norris was the recipient of many useful presents. An open service, which was held in icction with the League of Mothers, '< place yesterday morning at St. ';e'3 Chu.ch. Bemuera, and after the vice a meeting of the executive was d at the residence of Mrs. O. A. I slbot, Bamuera Road, where morning l sm. was dispensed. . The work of the. league faring the year vu discussed,
her Excellency Lady Alice Feigusson taking the chair. She emphasised, the need for making the scheme of activities more varied, and placing less dependence upon speakers as she discussed different aspects of the league's work. Mrs. B. Charters read a paper in which the life of the women in the backblocks was described, and which showed the heroism with which the hardships of the life are faced. Points of interest vital to the league were discussed by Lady Elliott, Mrs. Talbot and other speakers. • • » •
A social evening was given last evening at Mount Eden Kiosk by Mr. and Mrs. .Tames K. Donald. The rooms were prettily decorated with pale pink dahlias, the supper table looked very charming with dahlias in the same shade, maidenhair fern and the centre piece was composed of gaily coloured bon-bons, which during supper time, made much amusement. To receive her guests Mrs. Donald wore black and gold georgette, made with <;old underskirt and black floating panels. Mrs. Alfred Porter was in black and rose floral crepe de chine. Mrs. A. B. Donald wore mulberry georgette heavily fringed with handsome floral velvet shawl. Amongst the guests were: Mr. and Mrs. J. Donald, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Donald, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Brett, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Brett, Mr. and Mrs. William Rainger, Mrs. Harry Brett, Mr. and Mrs. John Alexander, Mr. and Mrs. Gilmore, Mrs. W.
