ATHLETICS.

SPORTS ON THE DOMAIN. CASH RUNNING AND CYCLING.

The Auckland Athletic and Cycling Club has received a record entry of 160 competitors, exclusive of old timers', forced handicap and novelty events, for its meeting to-morrow. Included in these entries are New Zealand's best professional cyclists and runners, who will certainly produce racing not seen at the Domain for some considerable time. Given a fine day the meeting should be one of the best held here, as the presence of Phil. O'Shea, the Dominion's cycle speed king, is sure to attract a large crowd. This wheelman is now in his fortieth year and going better than ever. In the running division F. B. Toms, Otahuhu, is the virtual scratch man, and is one of the most brilliant professionals seen in New Zealand for years, ranking second only to Don McLennan, Christcburch. With two such "speed demons" on the back marks there is sure to be no wating out io front. The card is a good one, comprising half, one, two and three-mile open cycle handicap, 120 yds, 220 yds and 440 yds open running events, together with an old timers' run, an old timers' cycle, a forced 100 yds handicap and novelty events. Altogether twenty-six events are to be decided, assuring patrons of a brilliant afternoon's sports. In the "old timers"" run and cycle events, and also in the scooter and trolley races for boys under 11 years, there should be enough fun to keep fans amused. The running events include the Auckland gift handicap, of 120 yds, carrying with it £15 in prize money. Altogether the programme should provide a brilliant afternoon's sport.

MILITARY SPORTS MEETING. j ENTRIES EXCEED 350. Over three hundred and sixty cadets and territorials will compete in the Auckland Military Sports Associations' athletic championships, to be held at Carlaw Park to-morrow afternoon. Entries in the cadet events total 320 and those in the territorial division 47. It is. one of the chief aims of the association that the honours shall be widely divided and for this Reason the entries have been limited to one man per company for each event, although a competitor representing his unit in a track event may also compete in the relay race and also in one of the jumps. A special attraction will be the final of the military athletic meeting held shortly before Christmas. The honours in this division win be contested by the Auckland Grammar School, the Seddon Memorial College A team, and the 35th Company (Devonport). The meeting will be counted as a half-day parade and all trainees in uniform will be given a programme and admitted free. During recent years the Military Sports Association has made a big effort to further the interest in sport among cadets and territorials, and it is hoped that the public will lend its support to the meeting. lively music will be supplied by the cadets' hand.

OLYH7IC FUBDS.

CLOSING DAT TO-MOKBOW. % The subscription lists opened in con-; nection with the Olympic foods are due* to be closed to-morrow, u the foods are urgently required in Wellington in older to finalise arrangements for the transport of the New Zealand Olympic representatives. To date the sum of £130 has been received by the Auckland branch in response to appeal made through a number of subscription lists, and quite a number of the lists have not yet been returned. The amount already in the hands of the Olympic Council justifies the council in making arrangements for the sending of the six. athletes, swimmers and boxers selected. But there is a very keen desire to have- ' the Dominion represented by a team of" oarsmen, as critics have arrived at the I conclusion that New Zealand's standard of oarsmanship is right up to Olympic pitch, and that crews of fours uid eights could be selected who are certain to carry their country's colours to the fore, while they are capable of extending the world's best also in pairs and doable -, sculls. For this reason an appeal ii ? being made to sportsmen to make the : final effort both in contributions and in the early return of lists in order that : hopes of this possible success at tho. t Games may not be lost through Way in getting the money to the right!' place.
