CLUB CRICKET

THE FINAL DAY, CAN EDEN HOLD THE HONOURS. AN INTERESTING POSITION.

The cricket season in Auckland so far as club play is concerned will he brought to a close to-morrow afternoon, when the last of the senior matches, which were started a fortnight ago will finish. Interest centres in the Eden-Ponsonby match at Eden Park, which is expected to djecide whether or not Eden will retain the championship. At the moment Ponsonby has a lead of two points, Eden having lost half a dozen points when four of the team's best players were away with the rep. team. The match is at an interesting stage, for Eden on the opening day won the toss and batted, to make 253 runs for «ight wickets. Since then there has been a slight break in the weather which may be expected to have made the wickets slower, and Ponsonby's batsmen will have to be at their best to overtake this total. A win by Eden on the first innings will leave the teams equal on points, so that the difficulty that confronts the Eden players is the problem of getting Ponsonby out twice in the afternoon.

In the other games University has 127 runs on for three wickets in reply to Y.M.C.A.'s first innings of 97, Grafton has 109 on without loss as against United Suburbs' first knock of 146, and (at" Devonport) North Shore hate made 79 for three wickets in response to Parnell's 120.

In the second grade North Shore will finish the play-off with Windmill, the former having made 138 and the latter 107 in the first innings.

Ponsonbv, with 88 on for five wickers, looks like getting a lead on the first innings against Harbour Board A, whose first try produced 100 runs. Glen Eden (188) already has a lead on Ellerslie. 51 and none for 40. Th® Green Lane-Harbour Board B game « interesting, the latter having made 176 while Green Lane has 111 runs up for four wickets.
