WHANGAREI CLUB.

THE AUTUMN MEETING. PROGRAMME FOR TO-MORROW. THE FIELDS REVIEWED. The autumn meeting of the Wliangarei Racing Club will be held at Whangarei to-morrow, and with the good fields engaged the fixture should be a most successful one. The Opening Event. .

The programme will open with the Trial Stakes, but the majority have little to commend them. Probably when the machine closes the public will have given' most support to FOOTPAD, BRITISH KING, VALSIER. The Portland Hack Handicap.

Seventeen are carded for the Portland Hack Handicap. Melissa is top weight with 9.13, and even with ihat impost she will have friends, for she has shown smart sprinting ability. Illingar has raced well in the North, while Welcome Home won in his first start, which was on this course in the spring. Abbey Day has not shown much form for a good while past, but Bright Dawn and Gay Cockade, who are bracketed, will have friends. Appellant won well at To Aroha, and would only have to be in the same form to be in the money. Pinon hai not raced for a long time, but Exalted won the open sprint six furlongs at the last Dargaville meeting. Lord Abbey and Desert Knight may be the best of the others. He won the Takapuna Cup with 8.2, and' was second in the Takapuna Handicap with 8.0. He was third in the Taranaki Cup with 8.6, and was just beaten in the Wanganui Cup with 8.3. He was second in the Ohinemuri Cup Carrying. 9.0, and is sure t4; be among the fancied division. Macroom has been successful up to a mile and 110 yards, but the Mclnnes Memorial is one mile and ' three furlongs. .. Papatu was second to Star Stranger in the Auckland Racing Club Handicap, one mile and a-half. Melissa is engaged in the Portland Hack Handicap as well as this, event, but 4f reserved for the Stewards' Handicap will have some support. Scot Free is top weight in the North* land Hurdles, but it is stated he will not make the trip owing to being injured when jumping the.; other morning at Ellerslie. Wenday has shown good form on the flat, and if she jumps all right she should be hard to dispose of. Ludlius showed good jumping ability at Faerot, while he finished ; third to Ned Kelly and Lady Cintra at Whangarei over hurdles in the spring. Of the others, Blago and Prince Papa may be the beet. The Northern Steamship Co.'s Clansman will leave the Northern wharf at 10 o'clock this evening, and will leave again at 9 p.m. to-morrow. A bus connection to Whangarei has been arranged. A special train will leave Auckland at 6 a.m. to-morrow and Newmarket at 6.10 a.m., returning after the races.
