HORSES FOR WHANGAREI.

WAIKATO NOTES.

Lord Abbey did not race prominently at the Paeroa meeting, but his form at Te Aroha a fortnight previously was fairly encouraging. The Lord Multifid gelding may be better suited by the company he will meet in the Maungatapere Hack at Whanganrei, while the journey (six furlongs) will be more to the liking of the.Te Awamutu candidate that the more lengthy distances he has been over lately.

Pinon, who has gone north to keep her engagements at Whangarei, has not had a race since July of 1926. There is still evidence of the damaged leg which caused the King Lupin mare to go off the scene and whether she is going to stand much further racing is a doubtful point.

Macroom has been paid up for in the Mclnnes Memorial and the Stewards' Handicap at Whangarei. When the Archiestown mare left Frankton on Wednesday the impression was that she would contest the distance race.

Abbey Day is in the Portland Hack and the Maungatapere Hack Handicaps at Whangarei. The Quin Abbey-Bell Crispin mare has not been racing well of late, but she is looking bright on it since taking up her quarters in the Waikato. Papatu has a useful record on the Whangarei track, on which the Te Awamutu representative is to make a reappearance on Saturday. The fact that it will be the first outing of the RomeoGambode gelding since the January meeting at Trentham may tell against him, but his impost of 8.0 should not unduly burden him. He has been working for some time.

Wenday will make her initial appearance among the ranks of the hurdlers at Whangarei. It is not a strong field that will oppose the Te Rapa mare. She has had a few schooling bouts over the jumps and his shaped fairly well. It is a lot to expect her to win first time out, but she is likely to have her turn at the new branch of stake earning. Ned Kelly is to tackle sprint company at Whangarei. The Qnin Abbey gelding has been missing hurdling and* flat racing this season. He won a double over the battens at the Northland course in the spring, while he was first home on the flat at the Taranaki fixture last month. If he begins well on Saturday he is likely to make matters merry, for a time at least.

Lucilius was not a good one on the flat, but the jumping game, to which he has been placed recently, may bettor suit tx.; Lucullus gelding. Lucilius is down to contest the hurdles at Whanearex and should go well.
