WESTFIELD MARKET. HIGH PRICES RULE. BEEF UP TO 36/ PF.R HUNDRED. Theie was a fair yarding of beef cattlc at Westfield yesterday, and again keen competition for choice quality, some of which averaged as high as 36/ per 1001b. Sheep and lambs again sold well, and last week's rates were fully maintained. Pigs shared in the general keen demand, but calves were dull' of sale. Dalgety and Company, Limited, report: Beei: There was a very heavy yarding of hoth cow and ox beef. Ox beef was firm at late rates, but cows and heifers were inclined to ease. A line of bullocks from Sommerville's Estate, Okoroire, sold to £15 2/6, and averaged £13 4/6. Wc quote:—Extra choice ox. 35/ per 1001b; choice and prime, 32/ to 34/; just killable, 28/ to 31/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 27/ to 29/; just kiilable, 24/ to 26/. Sheep: There was an average yarding, with little or no change in values. A consignment of prime wethers, on uccount of Mr. W. Johnstone, Puketutu, sold to £1 15/3. and averaged £1 14/. Competition was keen and values were very firm at late values. Heavy prime wethers made £1 10/fl to £1 12/3; mediuifl prime, £1 9/ to £1 10/3; light prime, £1 7/ to £1 8/9; small and unfinished, £1 1/3 to £1 8/6; extra heavy prime ewes, £1 8/ to £1 10/6; heavy prime, £1 5/ to £1 7/9; medium prime. £1 3/ to £1 4/9; light prime, £1 to £1 2/9; interiorly fatted, 15/ upwards. Lambs were nenned in more than average numbers. Competition was again keen, last week's values being easily maintained. A line of extra heavy prime lambs, fattened at Hautu Prison Farm, realised £2 4/ each. The whole truck of , 85 lambs averaged £2 2/9, being purchased by the Auckland Meat Company. This is a record price for any consignment of such a number, and is without doubt the best line ever offered at Westfield. Reports on the weekly stock sale at Frankton on Tuesday follow (that of the Farmers' Auctioneering Co., Ltd., appeared in Weduesday'6 issue):—

New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited.—A good yarding of fat and store cattle came forward. Last week's prices for beef were fully maintained, and store cattle were in good demand. Fat sheep sold at late rates, and there was keen competition for breeding ewes and store lambs. Wo quote: Heavy fat cows, £9 15/ to £11; medium to light fat cows, £6 12/6 to £9; heavy vealers, £3 12/6 to £4 17/6; rough killable cows, £4 13/ to £5; fleshy boner cows, £3 5/ to £4; cows and calves, £4 19/; 18-months old empty Shorthorn heifers, £2 12/6; Jersey-ci oss weaner heifers, £1 9/ to £1 14/; dairy cows, £6 10/ to £8; fat ewes, £1 3/ to £1 6/; fat lambs, £1 to £1 5/; woolly Btore lambs, 15/4 to 15/3; shorn mixed sex lambs, 13/1; small lambs, 8/. The entry of fat pigs showed a decrease in numbers, but prices were very firm, and generally advanced slightly. A full yarding of store pigs sold at improved values. Dalgety and Company, Limited.—There was a fair yarding of beef. All wellfinished lots sold at late rates, but for secondary quality the demand was weaker. Prime young cows and heifers made £8 to £9 5/: ordinary, £6 10/ to £7 15/; light, £5 10/ to £6 5/'; vealers, £2 10/; runners, £3 15/. There was a fairly large yarding of store cattle. All 3 and 4-year-old bullocks sold under good competition at late rates. Best pens made up to £8 12/6; 3-year steers of good quality to £7 15/; 2-year-old steers, £5 6/ to £5 12/; 18months steers (Holstein), £3 15/; 2-year-old mixed bred heifers (empty), £2 15/. There was a much smaller yarding of sheep. Fat sheep sold at late rates. The demand for store sheep was keen. Our yarding totalled 1089. Four and 5-year ewes made 22/6; 85 mixed ewes, 21/9; 112 mixed aged ewes, 23/6; 57 mixed aged ewes, 24/9; 85 2 and 4-tooth ewes, 25/6; 81 2 and 4-tooth wethers, 26/6; 200 2 and 4tooth wethers, 26/7; 32 2-tooth ewes, 25/; 40 shorn lambs, 17/7: fat ewes, 25/6 to 26/6; light fat ewes, 21/6. There was a medium yarding of fat pigs and a large yarding of store pigs. Heavy baconers made £4 3/ to £4 10/; medium baconers, £3 16/ to £4; light baconers, £3 5/ to £3 12/; good porkers, £2 8/ to £2 15/; medium porkers, £2 2/ to £2 6/; light porkers, £1 15/ to £1 18/; choppers, £2 15/ to £4; large stores, 16/ to 22/; best slips. 10' to 15/; good weanere, 7/6 to 10/; small weaners, 4/ to 6/.

MATAMATA STOCK SALE. On Wednesday, Dalget.v and Co., Ltd., conducted their usual fortnightly sale, when there was a small yarding of stock. Detailed prices were as follow:—Sheep: Forward-conditioned woolly lambs, 17/6; one pen small two-tooth wethers, 21/9; one pen store ewes, 11/9. Cattle: Fat cows, £5 13/ to £7 10/; boners, £3 15/ to £5 5/; light store cows. £2 10/ to £3 10/; Jersey bull, £4; 11 Jersey cross heifer calves, £2 10/. Pigs: Good stores, 22/ to ,29/; weanerß, 5/ to 9/. OTHER COUNTRY SALES.

Values obtained for fat pigs at Pukekohe were easily on a par with Westfield quotations.

There was a yarding of over 2000 sheep and .500 cattle at the 'J'aurnarunui stock sale. The sheep were mostly ewes and good luality lambs. Big-framed lambs were in ;ood demand, and best made up to £1. The cattle raiding was exceptionally large. Many of the beasts were prime. Mr. W. "'lintoff. The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Co., Ltd., reports having held its Rangiriri stock sale on Monday, there being a fair yarding. Prices were on a par with late rates. Quotations: Medium fat cows, £5 17/6 to £6 15/; light fat cows, £5 to £5 11/; plain and unfinished cows, £4 4/ to iTI 17/; fresh-conditioned stores, £3 6/ to £3 15/; others, 30/ to £2 10/; 15month to 18-month steer calves, £3 2/ to £3 16/; Jersey and Jersey cross heifer calves, best, £3 3/ to £3 11/; smaller, £2 2/ to £2 11/'; Jersey springing heifers, forward, £6 10/ to £8; others, £4 to £5 10/.

NORTH ISLAND EWES SELL WELL. (By Telegraph.—Press Assocation.) CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. At the Addington market the yardings of stock in the chief sections were smaller except in the case of fat lambs.

Store Sheep.—There was again a heavy yarding of store sheep. There were fewer lambs than has been the case for some time, and the demand for them was not as keen as the week before. Ewe lambs sold firmly at late rates. The demand was very satisfactory for two-tooth ewes, the best of the North Island ewes of this age selling up to 37/6, and for two-tooth halfbreds prices ranged from 35/ to 38/6 for best. Halfbreds with fair mouths and some condition sold well, but a number of lots of low-conditioned sheep were passed. The range of prices was: Two-toothed halfbred ewes, 34/ to 38/6; inferior, 31/ to 33/6; good two-toothed crossbred ewes, 35/ to 37/6; ordinary, 30/ to 34/; cull and inferior, 27/ to 29/6; four, six and eight-toothed 25/ to 28/; inferior, 20/ to 24/6; sound and failing-mouthed, 19/ to 24/; failing-mouthed, 18/6 to 23/; failing-mouthed halfbred ewes, 18/ to 24/; aged ewes, 8/6 to 14/; four and six-toothed halfbred wethers, 24/6 to 27/7; two-toothed, 23/ to 24/3; forward lambs, 22/ to 25/3; medium wether lambs, 19/ to 21/6; small and inferior, 15/ to 17/6; cull, 10/6 to 14/6; three-quarter-bred ewe lambs, 24/ to 26/2; halfbred ewe lambs, 27/3. Fat Lambs.—The sale was about the best of the season. As compared with the previous week a rise of 1/ to 1/6 a head on the average took place. The top price was 36/1 for a pen of ten from the West Coast, and an excellent line of 70 from Southbridge averaged 33/10. Values were: Extra prime heavy lambs, to 36/1; prime, 31/ to 34/; medium, 28/ to 30/6; light, 24/ to 27/6.

Fat Sheep.—Offerings were of good average quality. Values were: Extra prime wethers, to 40/10; prime, 32/6 to 35/; medium, 29/ to 32/; light, 24/ to 28/6; extra prime ewes, to 32/10; prime, 25/ to 29/; medium, 21/ to 24/; light, 13/ to 20/; aged, 16/ to 17/6.

Fat Cattle. —On account of the shorter supply the market firmed at the outset and prices as a general rule advanced £1 to £1 10/ a head and in some instances beyond the latter figure, some of the best steers selling at about £2 a head better than the week before. Best medium-weight beef was worth up to 43/ a 1001b; prime, 38/ to 41/; medium, 35/ to 37/G: heavy, 34/ to 37/; good cow beef, 33/6 to 37/: medium, 29/ to 32/; and rough, down to 26/.
