BANK SHARES IN DEMAND,

SEVERAL LINES FIRMER.

More disposition was shown on 'Change this week to do business in Government loans, and there was also a good inquiry for various public body debentures. The 1% per cent Loan, free of income tax, 1930, sold at .£O7 10/ and the Government jVi per cent Loan, maturing in 1930, had business at £98 10/. Government 5% per ceut Lean. 1036, changed hands at £100 10/ and for Auckland Harbour Board 6 per cent there is steady inquiry at £103 10/, with no quoted sellers. Devonport Borough 6 per cent are still wanted at £ 101. Buyers offer par for Gisborne 6 per cent debentures, Hamilton 6 per cent and Mount Eden 5%. Ngaruawahia 6 per cent are offered at £104 10/, but the buying figure is only £99. A premium of 40/ could be got for Mount Eden 6 per cent debentures, but the seller asks £105. Auckland Gag 5 per cent debentures are wanted at £90 and obtainable at £94. Towards the end of the week inquiry was made for Milne and Choyce debentures at £97. N.Z. Loan and Mercantile ordinary stock could be got for £100, and buyers now offer £99, an advance of 10/ upon last week's rate.

Bank shares are still seeing a fair amount of business. New South Wales Bank sold at £47 15/, and are still wanted .'it that figure. Sales occurred of English nnrl Scottish Bank shares at £8 2/0, after which buyers offered another sixpence. Several sales were made of Bank of New Zealand shares at 50/. Union Banks sold at £14 11/ and Bank of Australasia at £14 19/'. Yesterday afternoon a sale was i eported of Commercial Bank of Sydney shares at £28 7/6, after which a shilling less was offered. Buyers advanced their offers for shares in the Bank of Adelaide to £8 7/ at the third call yesterday.

The Pukemiro Collieries paid a halfyearly dividend of 3/ per share this week, and buyers now offer 60/9. Waipa Collieries eased in price this week when it was announced that the dividend would be 8 per cent instead of 10 per cent, as formerly. A number of sales were made of Wilsons Cement shares at 38/, and yesterday threepence less was accepted. Auckland Gas shares changed hands at 21/10, and the contributing issue sold at 15/10 and 15/9. Buyers came in for Burns, Philp and Co. shares at 41/6 and Dalgety,, Ltd., at £13 17/0. Kauri Timber shares are better this week. After sales taking place at 22/ earlier in the week a transaction occurred yesterday afternoon at 22/7%. Sellers then asked 23/, and a buyer came in at 22/9. Sales of New Zealand Insurance shares took place at 41/3, and sellers are now willing to take threepence under that price. Notional insurance sold at 15/6 and 15/5. South British Insurance are in request at 59/6, but the seller asked 60/

Amusement Park ■hares could be got for 11/, but buyers only offered 6/. A transaction took place in Trustee Executors Agency shares at 58/8, and Northern Steam contributing issue changed hands at 7/2. Dalgety, Limited, shares could be placed at £13 17/6, and New Zealand Farmers' Fertiliser at £4, while for New Zealand Refrigerating there is steady inquiry at 15/3. Buyers still offer 29/ for New Zealand and River Plate, and 49/ lor Ooldsbrough Mort, Ltd. For Newton King preference issue buyers offered 10/9 yesterday afternoon. Kaiapoi Woollen shares firmed slightly, buyers offering 8/3, while for Wellington Woollen £6 12/ is steadily offered. New Zealand Breweries are a little better this week, buyers offering 43/, while for the debentures, 23/ could be got.

The finding of a new reef in the Ohinemuri mines caused the shares in that company to advance from sales at 0/9 to 7/3, and buyers still offer 7/. Rumours regarding the locating of a reef in the Waihi Grand Junction property have probably accounted for the fact that this week sellers did not quote, and buyers offered 10/9, without business being done.
