PIRATE INFESTED. China Waters In Constant Peril. JAP. SHIP'S ADVENTURE. (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received 11.30 a.m.) SHANGHAI, February 29. As an indication of the extent to which China seas and coasts are infested by pirates an incident is reported from the Japanese Naval Office. The Kinkomaru, a Japanese freighter, grounded at the island of Tantao in the Formosan Straits. She wirelessed for assistance and a destroyer flotilla proceeded to the spot, where they found the vessel submerged except her stern. She was surrounded by over 100 pirate ships of all descriptions, and the pirates were clambering over the unsubiuerge-l portion. The naval force was compelled to turn machine-guns on the pirates, driving them to shore. It was discovered that the had looted the ship, taking everything detachable and also coal. The crew of 38 escaped prior to the pirates' arrival and were later unharmed.
