Good tennis was seen at Stanley Street on Saturday, when two D grade matches were played. The courts are in a dry and parched state after the dry spell. They are playing fast now.. GRANGE ROAD COURT.

The new tennis court of the Grange Rood Baptist Chilrch was declared open by Mr. E. H. Potter, Mayor of Mount Eden, on Saturday afternoon. Rev. A. S. Wilson presided over a group of church officers and members, as well as the tennis club in connection with the church. The leader of the Yung People's Institute, Mr. P. E. Kretschmar, gave an account of the work of tile young men of the church, N which resulted in this valuable additio:i to the church property. The vacant land of the church facing Dominion Road liau been cleared, fenced and a summer and wiuter court made by voluntary labour. Ttie Mayor gave an interesting history of tennis clubs in Mt. Eden district and commended the work of the local helpers.

WAIKATO BANNER.

HAMILTON DEFEAT CAMBRIDGE. (By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) CAMBRIDGE, this day. At Cambridge courts on Saturday the Hamilton A representatives met Cambridge Sub-Association for the Waikato Banner. The contest resulted in a decisive win lor the visitors by 11> sets (192 games) to live sets (137 games). Hamilton won all the men's singles but two. while Cambridge failed to win any matches in the men's and. combined doubles, and only secured one singles and two doubles in the ladies' matches.

THE RICH WORTH SHIELD.

The first tennis matches of the season for the Richworth Shield were decided on Saturday between the Maungatapere and Mairtown Clubs, on the former club's courts Each earn won Ave matches, but Maungatapere scored T2 games against 64. Results are as follow, Mairtown players being mentioned first :—

Men's Singles.—Keeble defeated J. Morrison, O—C ; Sligo lost to W. Morrison, 6 U.

Men's Doubles.—McLeod and Keeble lost to Morrison and Morrison, 2—o ; Sligo and Muliins defeated Berridge and Stewart,

Ladies' Singles.—Miss Eccles lost to Miss D. Morrison, 2—o; Miss Steedman lost to Miss L. Morrison, 7—o.

Ladies' Doubles—Misses Sfedman and Eccles lost to Misses B. and Z. Morrison. I Mrs. James and Mlrs Foote defeated Misses M. Morrison and Reynolds, o—6 Mixed Doubles.—Miss Foote and Mcl>od defeated Miss Morrison and Berridce. 9 7Mrs. James and Mulllns defeated Miss Reynolds and Stewart, 9—«.
