A WEDDING "MARCH." j temporary leave from GAOL. UNIQUE COURT SITUATION. There was a dramatic ending in the Supreme Court to-day to the case in which Stanley Uren Thomas, formerly a canvasser on behalf o£ a scheme for the establishment of a new city hotel, was charged with tlio theft of various amounts totalling £72 10/. Accused's original plea was one of "not guilty," but towards the end of the trial his counsel (Mr. Brvce Hart) altered it to one of "guilty," and Thomas was remanded for sentence imtil Saturday. Counsel then made application for his client to bo admitted to bail, in order that he might be married. Mr. Justice Reed said he could not allow bail. Prisoner was to bo sentenced on Saturday. His Honor asked the Crown Prosecutor (Mr. Meredith) •what facilities could be granted by the prison authorities for the marriage to take place. After conversation between his Honor and counsel, the judge intimated that ho was prepared to allow Thomas to come to town under the escort of a warder and a plain clothes officer between to-day and Saturday. Addressing the Chief Gaoler his Honor said: "If you require any further authority you may apply to me."
