CARTERTON 1 CARNIVAL*
GRAY'S THREE FALLS,
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
MASTERTON, Tuesday.
A light shower of rain made the track slippery for the electric light sports meeting at Carterton to-night, at which D. Gray, the Australian cyclist, appeared against T. Oakley. The meeting of these two riders was most unsatisfactory, as a series of mishaps to the Australian robbed each event of what gave promise of being thrilling finishes. Gray fell three times, twice at the same bend, and in one spill slightly injured his leg. He fell in his heat of the mile and Oakley fell in the final. In the final of the mile and a-half Gray and Oakley were fighting out an exciting finish round the home turn when Gray crashed and Oakley went on to win easily in 3m 54 l-ss. Exactly the same thing occurred in the two miles race, Gray falling at the same place when fighting out the finish with the Masterton | rider, who went on to win in 5m 9 4-ss.
Gray stated lie did not like the track, the bends of which he found difficulty in negotiating.
Jenkins won his heat in -the 100 yds race in 10s, but was unplaced in the final, which was won by J. Holm wood. E. K. Eastwood (Cs) won t lie 220vds race in 225, and from three yards won the 440 yds race in 51s.
