HIDE AND SKIN AUCTION.
EASIER TONE FOR HIDES.
At the auction of hides and sheepskins this afternoon in the Chamber of Commerce, prices were well maintained as far as sheepskins and calf skins were concerned. In sympathy with the fall in the overseas market, hides showed an easier tone, and the bids in many instances were not up to sellers idea of values. The result was that a number of lots were passed in. Quotations were as follows: —
Dry sheepskins, shorn pelts, 9!4d per lb; lamb, 13% d; three-quarter to full wool, medium, 14V4d: three-quarter to full wool, coarse, 13d: half wool, quarter wool, lid; black, 9d; hoggets, fine, 14% d; hoggets, coarse, 12% d per lb. Salted Skins.—Three-quarter to full wool, 6/6 to 11/ each; lamb, 4/6; black, 4/3; three-quarter wool, 4/'; shorn pelts, 1/7 each.
Hides.—Buvers offers were as follow: Cow, 331b to 441b. 12% d to 13% d per lb; 461b to 491b. 13d: 451b. up to 12% d to ll%d. Ox: 4olb to 521b. 12% d; 531b to 591b, lid; 591b to 691b, 13d. Calf: 14V4d to lsY*d per lb. Tallow.—Best mixed. 30/6 to 30'10 per cwt; medium, mixed, 28/; poor, 23/ per cwt.
