OBITUARY.
MR. HORACE HUMPHREYS. (By Telegraph—Own (Correspondent.) TE AROELA, this day. Mr. Horace Humphreys, whose body was found near Rotorua on Sunday, was 40 years of age. He was born, in Hawke's Bay in 1888, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. 11, C. Humphreys. He went to Morrinsville, when he was 17, and founded a joinery business, with which his name was always associated. He was in partnership with his two brothers, but took the business over himself after the war, and retained an active interest in it until he retired two years ago, and took up his residence in Rotorua. Mr. Humphreys was essentially an outdoor man, and he was in his element in all sports. He founded the Morrinsville Hockey Club, and its success was due to his enthusiasm and his strength as a player. He represented Morrinsville in the Waikato eleven. He also took a keen interest in cricket, fishing and deerstalking, and was said to be one of the finest bushmen in the country. The wilder the country the more he enjoyed the sport. His boundless energy and cheerfulness made him particularly popular with all lovers of outdoor life.
He leaves a ■widow and five children. Two brother? are alive—Mr. A. M. Humphreys, of Morrinsville, and Mr. R. C. Humphreys, of Rotorua, and also four sisters—Miss A. Humphreys, of Morrinsville, Miss H. Humphreys, of Sydney, Mrs. A. Giorgi, of Hastings, and Mrs. J. Hopwood, of Heme Bay, Auckland. The funeral left the Anglican Church, Morrinsville, for the Morrinsville cemetery this morning.
