"SPIRIT OF SPORT."

APPEAL TO ALL SECTIONS OF THE COMMUNITY. OLYMPIC GAMES IDEAL. An appeal is being made by the New Zealand Olympic Association to prominent citizens for assistance to raise an immediate fund of £7000 for sending a Dominion team of athletes to Amsterdam this year, and a further £20,000 as a. capital fund to place the Olvmpic representation fund on a permanent basis. It is a high mark, but in a dainty brochure, entitled "The Spirit of Sport,'" the committee claims that the ideal aimed at is equally high and the effort is worth while, for it will ensure a national development of amateur sport permeated by the highest tone. According to the declaration, the ideal of the New Zealand Olympic Association is amateur 6port organised so that every boy in every part of the country will have a chance, and carried out on lines calculated to develop both body and character—a definite national asset in its tutorial operation and national advertiser through worthy representation at each series of Olympic Games. Every individual sportsman is urged to join the Association, to encourage and influence clubs and individuals to join up, and to co-operate with the local branch in raising funds by subscription, donation and holding special functions for the benefit of the Olympic fund.
