A POPULAR OFFICER.
SUB-INSPECTOR F. LEWIN.
Sub-Inspector P. Lewin was farewelled by members of the Auckland police force prior to his departure for Nelson to take charge of the police district there.
Superintendent Wohlmann, on behalf of the company, expressed appreciation of the valuable work which Mr. Lewin had rendered both to the department and to the public during the past two years. He said that they were sorry to lose Mr. Lewin, not only because he was a popular officer, but also because he was a personal friend to members of the force.
These sentiments were endorsed by other speakers. A handsome clock was then presented to the departing subinspector. Mr. Lewin and the members of his family are travelling South today.
