DISASTROUS FIRE.

TOWN NEARLY WIPED OUT.

BRISBANE, Januarv 31.

An outbreak of fire has practically wiped out the town of Alpha, in the central district of Queensland. Twelve shops and the only two hotels in the town have been destroyed.

There was no water supply to fight the outbreak, which soon became out of control. The damage will run into many thousands of pounds.
