THE SANDERS CUP.

BETTY'S SPECIFICATIONS. BOAT INCORRECTLY MEASURED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. Doubts as to the measurements of Betty, defender of the Sanders Cup for Canterbury, were raised at a special meeting of the Canterbury Yacht and Power Boat Club to-night. A member of the club asked the chairman: "As you are official measurer, I ask you, is Betty right or wrong?"

The Chairman: She is wrong. If she was altered to conform to the Rona moulds we have here in Lyttelton, a boat good enough to beat" her and other provinces would also have a chance of producing Rona boats to beat her.

A Member: Have you any proof Betty is out?

The Chairman: I have measured her myself, and she is not correct. She was condemned at Auckland by the Auckland Association. He added that the Dominion Conference had been lacking in its duty in the matter.

At the last contest in Lyttelton the question of Betty's measurements was raised in the local Press. Betty was certified as correct at the conference, and her entry not questioned officially. With a view to settle any doubts about the measurement of competitors in future contests, a remit was carried recommending that a Dominion measurer be appointed, who should measure both old and new boats at least three months prior to the next contest. The remit was not put into force, on the score of the expense entailed. Unless structural alterations have been made to Betty since February last, which is hardly likely, her former certificate holds good. Betty has not been condemned by the Auckland Yacht and Motor Boat Association. It was admitted by Betty's builder that she was built of sap kauri, which, when thoroughly dried, was lighter than ordinary planking. The question of a minimum weight may be discussed at the conference at Stewart Island this month.
