Mrs. King is of full negroid descent. • » • • Mrs. Cotton, widow of the late Captain Cotton, is expected back at Greenhithe during February, accompanied by her son, Professor Cotton, and his wife. The party have been touring America. Professor Cotton has been lecturing at Washington and several other States in U.S.A.

Salisbury has elected a lady as mayoress for the first time sincu the council came into being just 400 years ago. Lady Hulse. the new mayor, is well known for her philanthropic work in the district, states "The Queen." The service in Salisbury Cathedral which preceded the ceremony of installing the new mayor was almost medieval in its impressiveness, and the sixteenth century jrowns worn by the councillors completed the picture. Lady Hulse, whose husband died some years ago and whose only son was killed in the late war. o-wns a beautiful Elizabethan house at Braemar, on the outskirts of Salisbury. and is immensely popular in the district. Her decision to be known officially during her year of office as "Mr. Mayor" has given great pleasure throughcut the borough. Lady Milner, who is a great personal friend of Lady Hulse. was one of those who made the journey specially to Salisbury to see her friend installed.
