CANADA'S FUTURE.

A PROSPEROUS COUNTRY.

VALUE OF NATIONAL RAILWAYS.

With a firm belief in the future of Canada, Mr. D. F. Denham, a former Liberal Premier of Queensland, is returning to Australia by the Aorangi. Mr. Denham has just completed an extensive tour through the sister Dominion.

"The people of Canada," he said, "feel that they have come through the trying period that followed the war. The agricultural industry is prosperous from coast to coast, and trade generally is sound."

Mr. Denham was forcibly struck with the important part which the national railways have played in the development of Canada, and in helping it through the difficult years. He admires the genius of Sir Henry Thornton, whose great business ability has been an asset to the country since he took office five years ago.

Last year the railways earned sufficent _to pay 45,000,000 dollars off the funded debt. Mr. Denham says that, given reasonably good seasons, Canada is bound to prosper.
