CASE OF A. M. RICHARDS.
GENERAL ASSEMBLY'S DECISION,

CHRISTCHURCH, this day,
A unanimous decision regarding the case of A. M. Richards, a student of the Church who has conscientious objections to miliary service, was reached at last night's session of the Presbyterian General Assembly. The following motion was carried: — "In view of the case of Mr. A. M. Richards, the General Assembly, while affirming the duty of the Christian in relation to the State, (1) declares, in harmony with the historic position of this Church, its conviction of the inviolability of tlio rights of the individual conscience; (2) recognises that a Christian, in tho interpretation of his duty to Christ, may feel obliged to refuse to render military service; (3) claims for members of this Church who hold conscientious objections to military training on religious grounds the rights of exemption provided by the 1912 amendment of the Defence Act, 1909."
